Overview

The American Revolution Institute of the Society of the Cincinnati at Anderson House is seeking a highly motivated, organized and detail-oriented Events Assistant. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this full-time position will have direct responsibility for all non-wedding event activities, supporting in-house events as assigned, interfacing with Anderson House colleagues as well as with clients and external vendors, as well as scheduling and logistics for house rentals. Hospitality, customer service and communication skills are essential. This position is focused on ensuring events are successfully sold and implemented, and the guest experience is always kept in mind. This position is located in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C., at the Society’s headquarters, Anderson House, a historic house that is designated as a National Historic Landmark and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Position Responsibilities

Event Support and Hospitality:

  • Responsible for prompt communication with all external inquiries for rental events that are non-wedding;
  • Maintain a calendar for all non-wedding rental events, in communication with the Events Manager and other colleagues;
  • Ability to work flexible hours from time to time, with additional compensation for working evening or weekend events;
  • Work closely and collaboratively with event staff and Anderson House staff, anticipating needs while maintaining appropriate decorum and a high level of customer satisfaction;
  • Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of the Anderson House floor plans and broader maintenance, operations, and events policies and procedures, and be able to effectively communicate them; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • 1+ years of progressively responsible experience in a position related to rental event management or selling, with an emphasis on customer service.
  • Experience in historic environments a plus.
  • Good writing and communications skills are necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent attention to detail with dedication to providing the best service possible.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the use of technology including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong inter-cultural communication skills; maturity, cultural sensitivity and tact suitable to working with individuals from around the world.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds of boxes and equipment for various event needs.
  • Must be organized and self-motivated; must have the ability and temperament to accommodate last minute schedule and event changes.
